
ENDURANCE SPORTS
Repetition reveals the pattern.
Running, cycling, swimming and triathlon ask the body to repeat movement thousands of times. A small restriction, asymmetry or loss of control may be barely noticeable at first, then become pain, inefficiency or a change in technique as distance and fatigue accumulate.
Many people first come to me because a recurring injury or persistent problem is interrupting training, limiting distance or making recovery harder. Others want to prepare for an event, build resilience or improve performance. In either case, the painful or tired area is only part of the picture.
As the Movement Architect, I combine detailed movement analysis, Pilates and the full studio apparatus to understand how your feet, legs, pelvis, spine, ribcage, breath and shoulders are sharing the demands of your sport. The aim is to reduce unnecessary strain, rebuild capacity and help your movement remain organised for longer.

PAIN, LOAD & COMPENSATION
The painful area may be carrying someone else’s workload.
The place that hurts is important, but it may be absorbing the consequences of a problem elsewhere. A foot that is not accepting load effectively may increase demand through the knee or hip. Limited contribution from the hip may ask the lower back or hamstrings to do more. A ribcage that does not move freely may alter breathing, arm movement or the way force travels through the trunk.
These relationships can remain hidden during everyday movement and only become apparent after repeated miles, longer sessions or increasing fatigue. That is why simply strengthening or stretching the painful area may not resolve a problem that keeps returning.
I look at how load is being distributed across the whole body, compare sides and explore what changes when support, resistance, range or position is altered. We then retest the movement to see whether the painful area is working more comfortably and whether the change can be maintained.
The aim is not to chase every small asymmetry. It is to identify which differences are relevant, reduce unnecessary compensation and help each part of the body contribute more effectively to the demands of your sport.
Repetition does not always create the problem. It often exposes how the body is already sharing the work.
TRAINING PHASES & CAPACITY
What the body needs changes across the season.
Endurance training is not one continuous level of effort. There are periods of building volume, developing intensity, preparing for competition, racing, recovering and beginning again. The body may need something different in each phase.
During heavy training, we may be looking at how movement holds together under accumulated fatigue and whether one area is beginning to absorb too much load. Closer to competition, the priority may be maintaining useful movement without creating unnecessary soreness or disruption. After an event, the work may shift towards recovery, restoring options and understanding what changed as fatigue increased.
This means the session cannot be separated from the wider training picture. I consider current workload, recent events, recovery, upcoming competition and how the athlete is responding physically—not simply how a movement looks on one particular day.
The aim is to support the phase you are in: sometimes building strength and capacity, sometimes refining control, and sometimes doing less so the body can absorb the work already completed.
Hard training, competition, recovery and rebuilding all place different demands on the same body.
SPORT-SPECIFIC DEMANDS

The movement analysis must reflect what your sport repeatedly asks your body to do.
RUNNING
We may look at how the feet accept load, how the legs and pelvis manage impact, and what changes as pace or distance increases.
CYCLING
We consider how the body sustains a repeated position, how force travels through the legs and pelvis, and whether the spine, neck and shoulders are absorbing unnecessary strain.
SWIMMING
Breath, ribcage movement, spinal organisation and shoulder control must work together while the body repeatedly moves against resistance.
TRIATHLON
The challenge is not only each discipline, but how effectively the body adapts between them. We look at the cumulative demands of training and the transitions from one movement strategy to another.
FROM STUDIO TO TRAINING
The change has to hold when training gets real.
The studio gives us somewhere to slow movement down and investigate what is happening without the full demands of pace, distance or fatigue. I can alter support, resistance, range, load, foot position and sensory information to see what helps the body organise movement more effectively.
I use the whole studio environment—not only the Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Barrels, but also the Spine Corrector, Foot Corrector, Foot Gizmo, BOSU, balance boards, rollers, balls, bands and other specialist props. Sometimes I add stability so the body can explore without guarding; at other times I introduce controlled instability to test balance, foot response and how effectively different areas communicate.
We then make the task progressively more relevant to training by changing position, load, speed, complexity or fatigue and retesting whether the new option remains available. The equipment is not the programme; it allows me to ask more precise questions of the body.
Studio insight only becomes valuable when it changes what your body can do under genuine sporting demand.
